Analysis of BDS/GPS Signals’ Characteristics and Navigation Accuracy for a Geostationary Satellite

The utilization of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is becoming an attractive navigation approach for geostationary orbit (GEO) satellites. A high-sensitivity receiver compatible with Position (GPS) developed by the United States and BeiDou (BDS) China has been used in a GEO satellite named TJS-5 to demonstrate feasibility real-time navigation. According inflight data, GNSS signal characteristics including availability, position dilution precision (PDOP), carrier-to-noise ratio (C/N0), observations quantity accuracy are analyzed. mean number GPS + BDS satellites tracked 7.4 11.7 PDOP 10.24 3.91, respectively. use significantly increases available improves PDOP. respect C/N0 illustrated detail. standard deviation pseudorange noises less than 4 m, corresponding carrier phase mostly 8 mm. We present performance using only combination at different weights through comparisons reference orbits. When combined observations, root square (RMS) single-epoch least can improve from 32.1 m 16.5 velocity 0.238 m/s 0.165 m/s. RMS determination 5.55 0.697 mm/s when combinations. Especially, x-axis direction reduced 7.24 4.09 observations.
